When I think of Irish food and drink, 4 things come to mind:
Irish Breakfast:
Eggs, black and white puddings and a slice of tomato. Generally served with good homemade bread.
Brown Sugar:
Everywhere we went, there was brown sugar on the table for sweetening coffee, tea, etc. It was months after being back in the States before I switched back to white sugar. Coffee with cream is called “White Coffee”.
Brown Bread:
The bread in Ireland is homemade and fabulous! Soda bread and Guinness bread is served with most meals. (My apologies, but I didn’t have a picture of the brown bread, so got one off the internet.)
Guinness and Jameson’s:
Go into any pub, ask the locals what they’re drinking and there’s only two answers: Guinness or Jameson’s. Guinness is an Irish dry stout that originated in a brewery in Dublin and is considered one of the best beers in the world. Jameson’s is by far the best selling Irish whiskey in the world.
From pubs to Michelin star restaurants, we enjoyed all of our meals (always with a Guinness, Galway Hooker pale ale or a Trashy Blonde, another pale ale!)
