Don’t be tempted to go crazy and sign up for everything. You’ll get so many emails, they won’t be useful anymore and you’ll just get irritated. Sign up for what you’re truly interested in for the near future.

NEAR HOME:

Sign up for notification of events close to home for weekend or day trips. Every state and most cities have a website with a calendar of events. Many have an email notification that you can sign up for.

To find yours:

1. Type your state or city and the word “events” in a google search. 
2. Click the link for one of the sites.
3. If they have an email notification, subscribe.
   

 TRIPS:

There are a number of popular sites that will notify you of upcoming deals for destinations you’re interested in. Here are just a few to get you started. Remember, be selective! My personal favourites (at the moment) are TravelZoo, Amtrak and TripAdvisor.

• TripAdvisor – Sign up for notification on deals (Hotels, Flights, Vacation Rentals, Cruises, Restaurants). Also provides reviews.
• Groupon Getaways – Sign up for notification on deals (Hotels, Flights, Vacation Rentals, Cruises, Restaurants, just about everything)
• AARP Travel – Designed specifically for retirees, discounts on cars, trucks, hotels, resorts, air, rail, cruises, vacation packages and tours)
• Orbitz – Hotels, Flights, Rental cars, Packages, Cruises, Activities and Rewards
• TravelZoo – Email notification and price comparisons on hotels, airfare, vacation packages, cruises, restaurants, spas, activities, car rental and entertainment
• Travelocity – Inspiration, Things to do, vacation packages, flights, hotels, cars and cruises
• Priceline – Sign up for Exclusive Email-Only Coupons (Hotels, Flights, Rental Cars)
• BestFares – Performs price comparisons and finds the best rates on Flights and Travel Deals
• Expedia – Vacation packages, flights, hotels, cars and cruises
• smarter TRAVEL – Email notification that provides price comparisons on flights, hotels, packages, car rental, vacation rentals and cruises. Also provides trip ideas, travel deals and travel guides.
• airfarewatchdog – Email notification of airfare deals and money-saving tips with price comparisons
• farecompare – Email notification of flight, hotel and vacation deals
